Changelog

What shipped, and when.

ReachFS is in development ahead of its closed beta. These are the milestones so far, newest first.

  1. Teams and storage

    • Explorer marks every file on the drive: on this computer, online only, uploading, or open on another computer.
    • A file open on another computer reads as read-only, so your editor says so before you save.
    • Copying a file on the drive with Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V uploads nothing the workspace already stores.
    • Opening a Premiere, Resolve or FCPXML project warms the start and end of every clip it uses.
    • Admins can archive finished projects to cold storage and restore them.
    • A workspace can keep its files in its own Backblaze B2 or S3-compatible bucket.
    • Admins can stop uploads at the plan's storage instead of paying for overage.
    • Files written before someone was removed can be re-encrypted under the current key.
    • RED R3D clips, including newer RED cameras, show their resolution, frame rate, timecode and camera in search.
    • ReachFS starts with Windows, and the tray shows one workspace at a time with its storage.
  2. Accounts

    • ReachFS has its own sign-in: email and password with an authenticator app, or an emailed code.
    • Passkeys sign you in with Windows Hello, a phone or a security key.
    • Sign in with Google or Microsoft.
    • A workspace can require two-step sign-in for everyone in it.
  3. Sharing and safety

    • Share links: send one file for review with comments at a timecode, or one folder read-only, with no account needed.
    • Small proxy copies of big clips, which share links play.
    • Deleted files and earlier versions are kept for 30 days and restore instantly.
    • Snapshots on a schedule, and a log of who added, changed, moved or deleted each file.
    • A revoked computer wipes everything ReachFS kept on it.
    • A ReachFS menu in Explorer: Duplicate, Keep offline, Share link, Show history.
    • A Transfers page, a bandwidth schedule, a screen for conflicted copies, and automatic updates.
  4. Files

    • The Files view works like a file manager: select several, right-click, rename, drag to move.
    • Drop files in from Explorer, with progress.
    • Notifications for locks, new devices, stuck uploads, conflicts and billing.
    • A drive's overview says what needs you and what is happening.
  5. The desktop app

    • A redesigned desktop app: every drive at a glance, then a page per drive.
    • Sign in through your browser; the app keeps the session.
    • The recovery phrase can be downloaded when a workspace is created.
    • No app holds a storage key: the server issues short-lived keys for one workspace.
  6. Search and polish

    • Search every drive with Ctrl+Shift+Space, by name or by codec, resolution, duration and reel.
    • Guided setup in the app, from sign-in to an open drive.
    • A team cache box for studios, so shared rushes come over the internet once.
    • Duplicating a file or folder in ReachFS is instant and stores nothing new.
    • A signed Windows installer that includes WinFsp.
  7. Teams

    • Shared workspaces with owners, admins, members and viewers.
    • A file open for editing is locked for everyone else, with who has it.
    • Removing someone starts a new workspace key.
  8. Saving and sync

    • Saving to the drive: a save is safe on the computer the moment it returns, and uploads in the background.
    • Two computers on one workspace stay in step, and edits made offline upload on reconnect.
    • Checked by an eight-hour stress test against real cloud storage.
  9. Encryption

    • Files and names are encrypted on your computer; ReachFS's servers cannot read them.
    • A 24-word recovery phrase for when every computer is lost.
  10. The drive

    • A ReachFS workspace mounts as a Windows drive and streams files as applications read them.
    • Search over a million files on this computer.
